30 Bengal inmates clear Class 10 board exams

Kolkata, May 22 (IANS): Outperforming general students, all the 30 inmates from various correctional homes in the state have cleared their Class 10 board exams, the results of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education declared on Friday showed.

While the overall pass percentage was around 82.66 percent, all the 30 inmates, including three women from the city's Alipore Women Correctional Home and one from Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home, emerged successful.

"While the credit should go to the students for their labour, it is also a result of the support structure that has been built for the inmates to educate themselves," Additional Director General (Correctional Services) Adhir Sharma said.

"Besides arranging for books, some of the inmates' examination fees were paid by the jail authorities," he added.

Malti Rajbhar, a woman inmate from Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home, secured over 67 percent marks.

According to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, about 10.27 lakh candidates appeared in the examination, and 8.28 lakh of them were successful.
