UP officials on field postings allowed expensive official cars

Lucknow, May 23 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh government has approved a long-pending proposal to give expensive cars to officials posted in the field.

A government order has been issued allowing field officials to buy cars worth Rs.14 lakh and above, an official told IANS.

The order was issued by principal secretary (Micro-Medium and Small Industries department) Sudhir Garg, which overrides a previous order which allowed for field officials cars worth up to Rs.7 lakh.

This left officials with fewer options like the Ambassador. Now they would be able to get cars such as Innova and Scorpio, the official further informed.

Officials who are now entitled to use such cars include divisional commissioners, district magistrates, departmental heads, deputy inspector general (DIG) of a range, senior superintendents of police (SSP) and superintendents of police (SPs).

Other category officials who were till now entitled to ambassador cars worth Rs.7 lakh can now buy new cars costing upto Rs.8 lakhs.
