Contrasting moods at two Tamil Nadu swearing-in ceremonies

Chennai, May 23 (IANS): Saturday's swearing-in ceremony of J. Jayalalithaa and the previous one of O. Panneerselvam showed contrasting moods of AIADMK members.

On Saturday, the mood was festive and infectious inside the Madras University Centenary Auditorium when AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa and her council of ministers were sworn in.

It was all smiles on the faces of AIADMK party leaders and also those present, though the event ended quickly.

Jayalalithaa was sworn in first. She was followed by 28 lawmakers in two batches.

On the other hand, the swearing-in ceremony of Panneerselvam and his council of ministers last year, following the conviction of Jayalalithaa by a Bengaluru court, was highly emotional.

Panneerselvam, who had replaced Jayalalithaa as chief minister, and his cabinet colleagues were weeping openly during the swearing-in ceremony.
