Mumbai, May 24 (PTI): In a bid to encourage performing arts, the Maharashtra government has completed a survey of auditoriums, used to stage plays and dramas, across the state to assess their existing condition, officials said today.
"The survey, which began in February, has been recently completed and as many as 132 auditoriums have been inspected," a state cultural department official said.
There were complaints regarding the facilities available or the present condition of auditoriums, specially outside mega cities like Mumbai and Pune. Hence, people are deprived of watching plays as they cannot be performed in such auditoriums, he said.
A team comprising local officer of cultural department, post graduate students of J J School of Architecture and local artists visited the respective auditoriums, he said.
Information on green rooms, light and sound system, acoustics, parking place, VIP rooms, seating capacity and toilets among others was collected, he said.
A final report in this regard will soon be prepared and its findings are expected to help the government to formulate a comprehensive policy for repairs and maintenance of the auditoriums, the official added.
