One killed, two injured in Kashmir guerrilla attack

Srinagar, May 25 (IANS): One person was killed and two others were critically injured on Monday when separatist guerrillas opened fire at a shop selling mobile phone SIM cards in north Kashmir's Sopore town, police said.

The militants opened fire at the shop selling BSNL SIM cards in Sopore, injuring three people.

"Muhammad Rafiq Bhat, a resident of Sogipora in Kupwara, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

"The two injured are being treated at a Srinagar hospital, where doctors said their condition is critical," a senior police officer told IANS here.

Earlier this month, guerrillas threatened with dire consequences cell phone service providers in Sopore after an equipment purportedly installed by terrorists on Badami Bagh cell phone tower was removed.

The equipment had reportedly been installed to improve their communication system since the tower was located at a vantage point.

Police here confirmed two days back that they had seized the equipment.
