Stevens resigns as Stuttgart coach

Stuttgart, May 25 (IANS): German football club VfB Stuttgart's coach Huub Stevens stepped down after helping the club twice to maintain Bundesliga status.

Stevens resigned on Sunday after helping the club, twice in a row, secure their first division status. The 61-year-old took over the 'Swabians' in November 2014 after Armin Veh stepped down when they were at the bottom of the standings, reports Xinhua.

"Huub has done an outstanding job here. He not only managed to keep us in the league twice but it was also great to work with him. For this reason alone, we owe him a deep gratitude. However, a decision was made and Huub will leave the club," Stuttgart sporting director Robin Dutt said.

Under the Dutchman, the Swabians were able to maintain their Bundesliga status as his men defeated Paderborn with a 2-1 comeback win to jump to 14th place on the last day of the season.
