Rain spells chilly weather in Kashmir


Srinagar, May 25 (IANS): It was a relatively chilly, cloudy morning here as the minimum temperature dropped three degrees below what is normal for this time of the season on Monday.

Intermittent rain since Saturday has brought down the day temperature.

The Met Office has forecast improvement in weather from Monday evening. "Light to moderate rain with thundershowers would occur at a few places in the state during the next 24 hours," it said.

"However, there would be decrease in precipitation from Monday evening. Weather will remain generally dry from Tuesday morning for next two to three days," an official at weather office told IANS here.

"We are expecting cloudy day ahead and the maximum temperature would hover around 19 degrees Celsius", the official said.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar was 10.1 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the season's normal.

"Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minimum temperatures of 6.5 degrees and 2.6 degrees Celsius respectively," the official said.

In Ladakh region, Leh town recorded the minimum temperature of four degrees and Kargil town 4.7 degrees.

The minimum temperature in Jammu city was 24.6 degrees Celsius Monday.
