Kundapur, Apr 9: Manjunath (14), son of Basava Marakala, drowned in the sea at Beejady near Koteshwar here on Sunday.
He had gone on fishing in the sea by the shore with his friends. While doing so, he was dragged away by powerful waves. As his friends screamed for help, some people around tried to save him but it was in vain.
His body too could not be traced for a long time either. The local fishermen spread a large wide and managed to pull out the body after some time.
The residents said the sadder part of the story was that the boy, hailing from a poor family, caught fish during free time and sell it to earn money for his schooling.
