Udupi, Apr 10: The district Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane (Fisheries Organization) has organized mass marriage at Shreekula Mahastree Temple at Bennekudru of Barkur near Brahmavar here on Sunday April 29.
This was announced by organization president Satish Amin Padukere in a press meet held here on Monday April 9.
He further said that it is for the first time in the history of fisheries community that mass marriages have been organized. "We have taken up this step with a view curbing lacs of rupees being spent on marriages and also a with an idea of stopping dowry menace which is so much prevalent in our society. Our community leader and noted entrepreneur G Shankar has come forward to help us in realizing this dream," he added.
A total of 59 couples will enter wedlock during the mass marriage on April 29. While the bride will be provided with mangalsutra, wedding sari and simple marriage ornaments, bridegroom will be provided with marriage dress and ornaments. Along with that all the guests from both the parties will be served meal on the day. "We are expecting the participation of 20-25 thousand people on this historic day," he said.
Uday Bangera, Deepakraj, Suresh Kunder, Ramesh Kidiyoor and others were present at the press meet.
