Karkala, Apr 10: The Suvarna Gramodaya scheme was launched under the auspices of Udupi zilla panchayat and Mudaru gram panchayat at Bajagoli school premises here on Sunday April 8.
Speaking on the occasion, minister of state for water resources K S Eshwarappa said that out of the 1000 villages selected for the scheme, six are from the taluk.
He further informed that each of the villages selected under the scheme would get Rs 1 crore from the government apart from Rs 2.29 crore from various other departments.
Plans to improve the taluk include construction of 16 vented dams and rejuvenation of nine ponds, he said.
Among those present were APMC president Antony D’Souza, BJP district president Srinivas Poojary, MLA V Sunil Kumar, SKDRDP supervisor Suresh Salian, taluk panchayat president Vikram Hegde and gram panchayat president Pushpa.
