Mumbai, May 28 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), plunged 204.52 points or 0.74 percent in the afternoon session on Thursday.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 62.35 points or 0.75 percent down at 8,272.25 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,619.31 points, was trading at 27,360.14 points (at 12.58 p.m.) down 204.52 points or 0.74 percent from the previous day's close at 27,564.66 points.
The Sensex has touched a high of 27,666.37 points and a low of 27,358.11 points in the intra-day trade so far.
Heavy selling pressure was seen in healthcare, metal and consumer durables sectors.
