Bantwal, Apr 13: A few residents of Maripalla near Farangipet here who were opposing the shifting of 18MGD water pipe took the MCC officials to task and even switched-off pump at Thumbe on Thursday April 12.
The people of Maripalla and surrounding area have been tapping water illegally from the 18 MGD pipe that supplies water to MCC. On Thursday the MCC officials removed all these illegal connections while shifting the pipe to facilitate four lane work of National Highway 48. But the people opposed this move and took officials to task.
Though the officials assured them that they would be supplied water through 2MGD pipe which supplies water to Mangalore. But the people were of the opinion that they should be supplied water only through 18 MGD pipe. When the officials did not care about their demands and said that it was illegal, some of them went to Thumbe and switched off the motor itself.
But the officials finally managed to convince them that if the motor is switched off, water supply to Mangalore city will be interrupted and the residents may resort to violence. They also assured them that their problem would be solved amicably. It was only after this promise that water supply was restored.
