Key talks between US, Pakistan begin in Washington

Washington, June 1 (IANS): The US and Pakistan, which begin the third round of their strategic dialogue here this week, will also look for a window for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s second visit to the White House.

A high-level delegation headed by Pakistani Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry will attend the talks which begin on June 2. The delegation arrived here on Sunday evening.

Diplomatic sources in Washington rejected earlier media reports that Sharif might visit the White House in June for a meeting with President Barack Obama.

However, they indicated that a visit was possible either in September or October. Sharif is expected to visit New York in September to attend the UN General Assembly, which creates an opportunity for a meeting with President Obama who would also attend the world gathering.
