Maruti Suzuki's May sales up 14 percent


New Delhi, June 1 (IANS): Automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki on Monday reported an increase of 13.8 percent in its total sales for May which stood at 114,825 units, up from 100,925 units sold in the corresponding month of 2014.

According to the company, domestic sales during the month under review grew by 13 percent at 102,359 units from 90,560 units sold in May 2014.

Exports during May zoomed by 20.3 percent at 12,466 units from 10,365 units shipped out during the corresponding month of 2014.

The sales of passenger cars segment, which comprises brands like Alto, WagonR, Swift, Ritz, Celerio, Dzire, Dzire Tour, SX4 and Ciaz, were higher by 14.3 percent at 85,190 units from an off-take of 74,536 units in the corresponding month of last year.

The off-take of utility vehicles comprising of brands like Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga rose by six percent at 5,567 units from sales of 5,253 units in May 2014.

The sales of van segment, which includes Omni and Eeco, increased by 7.7 percent at 11,602 units from an off-take of 10,771 units in the corresponding month of previous year.

The company's scrip at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading up 2.68 percent at Rs.3,887 per equity share from its previous close of Rs.3,785.45.
