'Breasts meant for feeding young ones'

New York, June 1 (IANS): A young mother, shocked to find her picture of publicly breastfeeding her son on Facebook, has shot a furious letter to the person who had posted the picture.

The person, stranger to the woman, had clicked the photo while she was feeding her child in public and posted it on social media with lewd comments.

Following which, Conner Kendall posted a scathing letter in which she admonished the man for invading her privacy and shaming her, Mashable reported.

The post has since been shared more than 43,000 times.

Kendall wrote about the struggle that mothers who wish to breastfeed their children in public face.

"I strongly encourage you to educate yourself as well as your daughter about breastfeeding. Breasts are meant to be used to feed our young ones. It is society that has sexualised them." wrote Kendall.

"Children do not sexualise breasts until they are taught to do so. I pray that if in the future your daughter chooses to breastfeed, she is not shamed of (the act) and does not have her picture plastered all over social media."

Though the man offered what Kendall interpreted as an insincere apology, she is encouraging others to share her story as a means to draw attention to the controversial topic of pubic breastfeeding.

"We need to educate ourselves, society, and our children on the fact that breasts are not made to sell lingerie, food, clothes, electronics, and just about everything else out there. We were given them to feed our babies, that's it," Kendall wrote.
