40 killed in Iraq suicide attack

Baghdad, June 1 (IANS/EFE): At least 40 Iraqi security forces and combatants from the Shia Popular Mobilisation Forces were killed and 25 others wounded in a car-bomb attack near Fallujah in the Iraqi province of al-Anbar.

A security official in al-Anbar said on Monday that a suicide attacker drove a bomb-laden Hummer into government forces and Shia militants gathered at al-Mathni military installation, around 50 km west of Baghdad.

The explosion also damaged buildings in the complex, including an equipment and ammunition warehouse.

The official noted that the wounded were admitted to nearby hospitals, and did not rule out an increase in the death toll.
