New centre to nurture young scientists in Bengal


Kolkata, June 2 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said the city's Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) would be granted Rs.5 crore to set up an innovation centre for nurturing young scientists.

Founded in 1958, and enjoying the status of a status of a "special institution" granted by the state government, the JBNSTS has been working towards identifying young talents in the fields of science, engineering and medicine and nurture them into scientists and technologists.

"In order to promote science and encourage children to take up scientific activities, we have decided to give Rs.5 crore to JBNSTS for setting up an innovation centre," Banerjee told media persons here.

She said the money will be given to the institute in two installments by the state education department.
