Amit Shah takes stock of BJP's membership drive

New Delhi, June 2 (IANS): A month after launching a nationwide membership drive, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah held a meeting of party leaders and took stock of the party's campaign.

"The meeting was convened by our national president to review the progress of 'Mahasampark Abhiyan' (membership drive) in which all the state presidents gave their feedback," said Sidharth Nath Singh, the BJP national secretary and in-charge of West Bengal.

The meeting was attended by state presidents and in-charge of the states.

"We have been asked to ensure maximum participation of the people on the International Yoga day," said Chhattisgarh BJP chief Dharmlal Kaushik.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for making Yoga a mass movement to connect people and strengthen the bonds of humanity.

"We have also been asked to spread awareness among the masses about the central government schemes--"Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" and cleanliness campaigns, added Kaushik.

Shah had launched membership drive across the country on May 1.
