Karkala, Apr 16: A young man returning home on his relative's mobike was killed after being knocked down by a good lorry at Joduraste near here on Sunday April 15 afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Kishore (20), a resident of Kookribailu near Neerebailur. He was riding pillion on his brother-in-law Shivaram's (45) mobike. They were returning home after attending a month's mind of one of their relatives in Mudar.
A lorry of Tamil Nadu origin carrying rice bags which was in front of Shivaram's mobike turned to right at Joduraste without turning on signal or indicator. Though Shivaram tried to evade the collision, his mobike rammed into the lorry from behind.
As a result Kishor who was riding pillion was thrown on to the road and before he could recover the back wheels of the same lorry crushed him to death.
Kishore was working in Mumbai and had come home only a few days ago to take rest after undergoing a surgery. His parents Vithal Shetty and Shantha Shetty have been to Mumbai to attend the wedding of their relative. His brother Sudhir and he were at home all these days. On the other hand Shivram Shetty is a tailor by profession and owned a tailoring shop at Bailur.
Though the lorry driver Kandaswami and lorry cleaner tried to flee the place soon after the accident, the locals caught them and handed them over to police. Town police are investigating the case.
