Ex-servicemen meet army chief on OROP

New Delhi, June 3 (IANS): Ex-servicemen on Wednesday met army chief General Dalbir Singh to discuss their request for One Rank, One Pension (OROP) and were advised to postpone their protests.

Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement chairman, Maj. Gen. Satbir Singh (retd) told IANS the army chief has urged them to postpone their agitation, slated to begin June 15, for non-implementation of the OROP. They had also planned a relay hunger strike on the roads.

"We met the army chief and told him he is the chief of ex-servicemen as well. He asked us to postpone our agitation...we said we need the government to give some assurance (on the issue)," he said.

The chairman said their demands included that there be no dilutions in the OROP and a timeline for its implementation be given.
