Summer holidays extended in Bengal government schools

Kolkata, June 5 (IANS): With an eye on the weather, the West Bengal government on Friday extended the summer holidays in government-run schools by a week.

"Considering the weather, we have decided to extend the summer holidays by seven more days. Some of the schools have already reopened and some are scheduled to reopen on Monday," Education Minister Partha Chatterjee told mediapersons here.

"From Monday onwards the summer vacation will be extended by seven days," he added.

"The decision has been taken by the order of chief minister. I will also urge the private schools to extend the summer vacations so that children do not suffer in the heat," the minister said.
