Syrian regime kills over 90 civilians in two days

Beirut, June 5 (IANS/EFE): Syrian regime bombings carried out in various provinces have killed at least 94 civilians and wounded hundreds of others within the past two days, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Friday.

At least 20 minors and 16 women were among those killed.

Regime aircraft conducted a total of 390 airstrikes, 285 of which were explosive barrels dropped by helicopters.

The SOHR explained that the raids took place in Damascus and its suburbs, Deraa, Quneitra, Aleppo, Idlib, al-Hasakah, Deir al-Zour, Hama and Homs.

Since the beginning of the year, 2,634 people have been killed in government air raids, according to the London-based NGO's figures early in May.

At least 1,820 of those were civilians and 814 were fighters from different groups, including the Nusra Front, the Al Qaeda affiliate in Syria, and Islamic State.

Syria has been the epicentre of heavy conflict since March 2011, resulting in the deaths of 220,000 people, according to UN estimates.
