TDP legislator sent to police custody in cash-for-vote scam


Hyderabad, June 5 (IANS): A city court on Friday sent TDP legislator A. Revanth Reddy and two other accused to police custody for four days in cash-for-vote scam.

The court dealing with Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases sent the accused to police custody from June 6 to 9.

The ACB, which is looking to collect more evidence in the case, had sought their custody for five days.

The court directed the ACB to interrogate the accused in the presence of their lawyers between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A lawyer of Revanth Reddy said the judge also directed that the accused shall not be subjected to physical or mental harassment or third degree.

Revanth Reddy was arrested by the ACB on May 31 when he was handing over Rs.50 lakh to nominated legislatorr Elvis Stephenson to make him vote for the Telugu Desam Party-Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in Telangana legislative council elections. The TDP leader's two aides Sebastian Harry and Uday Simha were also arrested.

The next day, they were produced before a magistrate, who sent them to judicial custody for 14 days.
