Mangalore, Apr 19: A desperate effort has been put up by the district administration to curb the rights of the citizens, said Ivan D'Souza, advocate and vice-president of District Congress Committee (DCC).
He was speaking at the protest organized to oppose the controversial notification issued by the district administration in front of deputy commissioner's office on Thursday April 19.
The notification issued by the district administration to restrict the protests and processions is an anti-social Act. One could feel the days of emergency after the enactment of this notification, he described.
"State government has not initiated this notification. Why district administration is keen on imposing restrictions on the people of Dakshina Kannada the?" he asked.
Lolaksha, AHINDA leader said that only democracy has the right to enact such law. "But here the bureaucracy feels that it has the same right," he added.
“The leaders who pulled the gods from temple to street are silent now. Why are they not speaking now when the rights of the people have been curbed” he questioned.
Later a memorandum was submitted to the DC demanding not to enforce the proposed notification.
B V Sitaram of Karavali Ale, activists Renny D’Souza, Robert Rozario, Sylvester DS’ouza, Narendra Nayak, Nanda Pais, Chudamani, Mamata G Rao, Harini, Melwyl Pinto, Suresh Shetty, and Suma were also present at the protest rally.
