Jun 8, (Mid-day): The 30-year-old offered to accompany the teenager home from work in an auto rickshaw, and offered her the drink on the way; when she started losing consciousness, he took her to a lodge near the beach and allegedly raped her
A teenaged married woman was allegedly raped by her own brother-in-law after the latter offered her water spiked with intoxicants. Once the accused saw that the woman was losing consciousness, he took her to a lodge near Aksa beach and sexually assaulted her.
The case was first registered by the local Malwani police, who then transferred it to the Borivli police. According to the police, the 19-year-old survivor, her 23-year-old husband, his elder sister, and her husband stayed together in an apartment in Borivli.
The survivor got married to her interior designer husband in 2013 and the two couples had been staying together in the same house since then. The accused, a 30-year-old, had allegedly been trying to get close to the young woman since day one and had, on many occasions, attempted to harass and molest her.

As the duo hailed an auto rickshaw, the accused offered to the woman a bottle of water.
This water had allegedly been spiked with an intoxicant, according to the police, and the woman soon began to lose consciousness. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused told the auto rickshaw driver to proceed towards Aksa beach.
There, he checked into a lodge near the beach and raped her. Police said he then called up the survivor’s husband and told him his wife had been having an extra-marital affair with him and was presently with him at Aksa beach. The accused then fled from the room, leaving the unconscious woman behind.
Family member rapes minor, arrested
When the survivor came to and found herself without any clothing, she called her husband. The couple went to the local Malwani police station to register the offence. On Friday (June 5), the case was transferred to the Borivli police, since the crime began from their jurisdiction.
Tragic life
The survivor told the police in her statement that she is originally from a village in Uttar Pradesh and had been allegedly sold by her father for Rs 50,000 in cash, to a man identified only as Patel. She escaped from Patel’s clutches three years ago and arrived in Mumbai. Here, she met her future husband and fell in love.
The couple got married when the survivor turned adult i.e. in 2013. The teenager also claimed, in her statement, that her brother-in-law would consume drugs. The accused has been booked under Sections 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Police said he is still absconding.
