Lucknow, June 8 (IANS): After UP PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav threatened escalation in hostilities with Madhya Pradesh, the latter on Monday released the water from the Baan Sagar dam, officials said.
The Central Water Commission had intervened in the dispute after Yadav pitched for it and called the attitude of MP as "against the federal structure of the constitution".
The water released by neighbouring MP reached the Son river on Monday afternoon after which five pumps at the the Son pump canal began functioning.
The Uttar Pradesh government reciprocated and lifted the stay on release of water to MP from the Datia barrage, officials told IANS.
The minister during the course of several rounds of meeting in the union capital had threatened to take legal course if MP refused to release its share of water. The last meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Central Water Commission A.B. Pandey.
Districts like Allahabad, Mirzapur and Sonebhadra would immensely benefit by the decision.
