NIA re-registers case on Manipur ambush


Guwahati, June 8 (IANS): The NIA Guwahati Branch has re-registered a case over the June 4 attack in Manipur's Chandel district, where militants ambushed an army convoy and killed 18 army personnel.

The case was re-registered in compliance to an order issued by the union home ministry on Saturday, said a statement issued by the National Investigation Agency on Monday.

The NIA case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, under the Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

A case on the incident was earlier registered by the Tengnoupal police station of Chandel district.

The attack was executed by an armed group belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang and its affiliates active in the northeast, along the international border with Myanmar.
