AAP questions Tomar's arrest

New Delhi, June 9 (IANS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday questioned the need to arrest its leader Jitender Singh Tomar over his alleged fake degree when the matter was before the court.

AAP leader Kumar Vishwas accused the central government of "harassing an elected representative of public" by getting the Delhi law minister arrested in the case.

Speaking to reporters here, Vishwas said the minister should not have been handled the way the Delhi Police did by dragging him out from his residence.

"Why an elected minister is to be treated like this...what has happened, they have created a situation like that of emergency.

"Same cases are there against BJP ministers Ram Shankar Katheria (Mos, HRD) and Smriti Irani (HRD minister) but nothing of that sort has happened to them," he said.

Vishwas told reporters that Tomar visits the court on every hearing date of his case and has presented his papers before the court. And, the court is yet to decide the matter.
