Bantwal, Apr 20: Despite increase in waterflow in Netravati river, Thumbe dam is still facing problem with no water flowing in to the dam.
As reported earlier there owing to lack of rain waterflow to Netravati river had come to almost standstill in the lower areas of Sarapady dam. Since MRPL had stopped water supply from Sarapady dam, there was no waterflow into river Netravati.
However, owing to good rain fall in the last couple of days in Dharmasthala, Puttur and Uppinangady areas, waterflow in the river has increased. But the water has not reached Thumbe dam yet. Water level at Thumbe dam was below 7.7 metres on Thursday April 19. Though water is flowing above the Sarapady dam, it has only increased waterflow in Netravati. But water has not reached Thumbe.
On the other hand a temporary blockade raised near Sarapady dam by AMR dam for construction works too has been cleared. This too has helped in the increase of waterflow.
Nevertheless, good rain in Dharmasthala, Uppinangady and other areas has been beneficial to farmers at Shambhoor, Navoor, Narikombu and surrounding areas as they are now able to irrigate their fields.
