Indraprastha Gas mulls billing PNG customers on yearly basis

New Delhi, June 9 (IANS): State-run Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) is working on a plan for consumers of piped natural gas in the national capital region to pay their bills yearly, instead of on the current bi-monthly basis, a senior official said on Tuesday.

"The IGL is likely to move this proposal to the ministry which is inclined to endorse it for the benefit and convenience of PNG consumers in the region," Ashutosh Jindal, a joint secretary in the petroleum ministry, said at an event here organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The move to adopt yearly payments was being done keeping in mind the priority of consumers' satisfaction, he said.

According to Jindal, for billing purposes, the company will initially depend on the feedback of PNG consumers, "who will record their consumptions through the e-commerce mode to IGL and the company will bill accordingly, though it will have an effective monitoring system in place".

In this connection, the government's target to provide 10 million PNG connections by 2019 to the population is achievable, he said.
