Delhi seeks Rs.3,000 crore from centre

New Delhi, June 9 (IANS): The Delhi government on Tuesday sought Rs.3,000 crore from the central government to pay salaries of sanitation workers in civic bodies, a government source said.

The demand was made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a meeting with Finance Minster Arun Jaitley, the source told IANS.

The meeting comes a day after the AAP government announced it was providing Rs.500 crore to two municipal corporations for clearing the salary arrears of sanitation employees.

Sanitation workers have not been paid salaries for three months. Several of them from the East and North Municipal Corporations have been on strike intermittently in protest.
