Self-immolation bid by girl, boy in Gurgaon

Gurgaon, June 9 (IANS): A 20-year-old girl and her boy friend were badly injured in an alleged self-immolation bid in Gurgaon on Tuesday, police said.

The victims identified as Priya and Tushar allegedly set themselves ablaze in Palam Vihar area. Both were under-graduate students.

"The victims allegedly poured inflammable liquid and set themselves ablaze. They received more than fifty percent burn injuries and have been admitted to a hospital in Delhi," a senior police officer told IANS.

According to locals, Tushar jumped in the water tank of a nearby under construction building after setting himself ablaze and some labourers tried to douse the flames engulfing Priya.

A family member of Priya alleged that she was called by her boyfriend, who set her ablaze later on.

"We are investigating the incident from various angles. The victims' statement is still awaited as they are not in a condition to give it," said another police officer.
