Mercury hits 46 degrees Celsius in Bihar


Patna, June 9 (IANS): Bihar continued to reel under an intense heat wave as the maximum temperature in Gaya district touched 46 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 43.5 degrees in state capital Patna, the Met office said.

Patna weather office director A.K. Sen said the heat wave conditions will end by Wednesday.

"There will be some respite from the scorching sun from Wednesday as light to moderate pre-monsoon showers will lash various parts of Bihar on June 11," he said.

According to meteorological officials, the highest temperature recorded in Gaya before Tuesday was 46.4 degrees Celsius in 2012.

Sen said the monsoon will arrive in Patna after four-five days.

Till date, officials have reported only three heat wave deaths.
