Bengal borrowed Rs.64,300 crore from market since 2012-13: Mitra


Kolkata, June 9 (IANS): The West Bengal government has borrowed altogether Rs.64,300 crore from the market since fiscal 2012-13, Finance Minister Amit Mitra told the assembly on Tuesday.

Mitra said the Trinamool Congress government has spent over Rs.58,000 crore for repaying the principal as also the interest for the loans incurred by the preceeding Left Front regime.

He was replying to a poser from Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra who had sought details about the market borrowings of the incumbent regime during 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Mishra pointed out that the total loan amount was Rs 1.87 lakh crore when the Left Front was voted out in May 2011 and will shoot up to Rs 2.92 lakh crores in 2015-16.

Attacking the Trinamool government, Mishra said while the Left Front regime had left a laon burden of Rs 1.87 lakh crore after being in power for 34 years, the Trinamool regime is all set to take Rs.1 lakh crore as loan in only five years.
