Indian Railways scheme: Convert your waitlisted train ticket into an airline ticket

New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI): In some good news, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is offering passengers who fail to get their waitlisted ticket confirmed an option to convert it into an airline ticket at a competitive fare.

The Railway PSU has already tied-up with budget carrier GoAir and have sold about 100 tickets through this scheme in the past one month.

"We have also entered into an understanding with SpiceJet under the scheme and plan to rope in other domestic carriers too," said IRCTC spokesperson Sandip Dutta.

However, the scheme applies to tickets booked at least three days prior to the date of the journey. The flight tickets would be made available only for the day of the train journey or a day after that.

IRCTC would be sending e-mails to waitlisted passengers who seek to avail the benefit under the scheme.

Passengers booking train tickets right from sleeper class to AC classes can avail the facility, Mr Dutta said.

"For such passengers, the airline ticket would be competitively priced and cheaper by as much as 30-40 per cent," he said.

The airlines would be placing their unsold tickets with IRCTC, a move that not only promises a boon for the domestic carriers but an added option for the passengers in reaching their destination without having to abort their trip.

With an average seat factor of about 70 to 75 per cent, most of the domestic airlines fly with about 20 per cent seats empty in their plane and IRCTC plans to make the best use of it.

This scheme is GOOD to the people who reside near Airport and Cities....

    What about others....???

Eg. People from Udupi are booking ticket in AC with waiting list
If Train ticket converted he has to travel by Road to Kenjar near Bajpe by hefty Taxi fare ( You have to pay return fare to Car/Taxi )....
secondly Budjet Airlines never allow more than 17-20 kg...

You cant take any spices/Pickle/cooked food/tooth paste or any liquid in hand bag ( not more than 5-7 kg ) due to Airlines security.....

This scheme is best suited to BIZ People/Company executive who will travel / fly on and off with 2 piece luggage....

    Total FEKUGIRI SCHEME

Best thing to do is to board the train with waitlisted train and on arrival of TC pay him 500 & he will provide you with proper seat or better seat/ sleeper in that train.

There are some people here who knows only to criticize
Some times people should also learn to appreciate the good works done may be either by BJP or Congress

I feel this is one of the best scheme as it is advantage for people who wants to reach destination with good price and Airlines who can fly with full seats. Of course it will not be use for people travelling for location where there is no airport or location like Mangalore where all inbound and outbound flights are always full

If there is nay suggest or Idea from your side then you can also send it to www.mygov.in.

Don't always try to judge but at least some time try to contribute to nation
