Nine killed in Afghanistan clash

Kabul, June 10 (IANS): A clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban militants claimed the lives of nine people, including those of six insurgents, in the northern province of Kunduz, a senior police official said on Wednesday.

"A group of Taliban militants attacked a house of a local police commander in Ali Abad district last (Tuesday) night which triggered a gun battle and lasted for a while during which six rebels and three policemen were killed," Abdullah Gard told reporters in provincial capital Kunduz city, 250 km north of Kabul.

Five more militants were injured during the firefight, the official confirmed, according to Xinhua news agency.

Kunduz has been the scene of Taliban-led militancy over the past couple of years.
