Mangalore, Apr 22: Education is the only tool for uplifting the backward communities. They should give importance for the higher education of their children, said Veerappa Moily, chairman of Union Administrative Reforms Commission.

He was speaking at the D K district Adi Dravida convention held at Nehru Maidan on Sunday April 22 evening.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he said that all should ban the shastras and grinthas which support untouchablity.

He also called for the downtrodden people to imbibe themselves with self-confidence and unity for the reformation of their community as a whole.

Ramachandra Mantrady, honourary president of district Adidravida Samaja Seva Sangha presided over the function. Shri Basavalinga Murti Swamiji of Shri Murugha Rajendra Math of Mysore invoked blessings.

District in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty, former minister B Ramanath Rai, MLAs Yogish Bhat, Abhayachandra Jain, Shakuntala Shetty, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, deputy mayor Abdul Salim, ZP ex-president Somanath, ex-corporator U K Shrinivas and P Keshava of DSS were present on the occasion.
