Mangalore, Apr 23:  The Dr K M Shankar Prabhu Memorial library was inaugurated by mayor Vijaya Arun here on Sunday April 22 at Pragati Nagar here.

The programme was jointly organized by public library department, town Central Library, Pakkaladka Congress Seva Dal and Pragati Nagara Layout Residents’ Association.

Speaking on the occasion, the mayor stressed on the importance of reading and said that learning should be a lifelong process.

The programme was presided over by corporator B Vishwanath.

The library contains about 5,000 books including 500 books relating to children’s literature. In addition, all major periodicals and newspapers will be subscribed.

Among those present Bajal parish priest Fr Antony Louis, district Central Library chief librarian S M Bairanatti, KPCC member U T Khader, Pragati Nagara Layout Residents’ Association president G G Hiremath, Pakkaladka Jumma Masjid president Abdul Rehman, Kavi Panchalingeshwara Temple president Shashidar Shetty, and town library authority members Premchand and George Rodrigues.
