Caracas, Jun 12 (IANS): The Interpol office in Colombia has apprehended a Venezuelan man wanted for killing a journalist during anti-government protests here in early 2014, Venezuela's justice minister said on Thursday.

"Interpol Colombia confirms the capture of fugitive Yonny Eduardo Bolivar Jimenez, Alias 'Capitan Bolivar'," Gustavo Gonzalez Lopez said on Twitter.

Venezuela asked Interpol in April 2014 to issue a red corner notice for the apprehension of Bolivar, accused in the death of Globovision's Adriana Urquiola, Spanish news agency Efe reported.

Authorities suspected that Bolivar, who has a long criminal record, had fled to Colombia.

Urquiola, 28 and five months pregnant, was among a number of people forced to get off a bus in Caracas when a barricade erected by anti-government protesters blocked the vehicle's path.

As the passengers disembarked, assailants in a vehicle fired shots at them before speeding away.

Urquiola was struck twice in the head, while a friend travelling with her was hit in the leg but survived.

Violence associated with the protests of early 2014 left 43 people dead, including supporters and opponents of the government, public employees and bystanders.
