Mangalore, Apr 23: The city will play host to All-India FIDE rated open chess tournament to be organized by Sourth Kanara District Chess Association (SKDCA) from July 1 to 7. The tournament will be held in Radhakrishna Temple hall here.
This was announced in a press meet here by SKDCA president M S Gururaj on Monday April 23 morning.
He further said that United Karnataka Chess Association and All-India Chess Federation too are supporting SKDCA in holding this chess fest, the first-ever of this kind in the city. The tournament is officially recognized by FIDE, All-India Chess Federation and United Karnataka Chess Association.
The chess fest will see a host of international players along with national title holders vying for top places during the one week. In all around 300 players out of at least 150 FIDE rated players are expected to compete in the tournament.
The tournament will be inaugurated by D V Sunder, general secretary of All-India Chess Federation on July 2. The tournament will be conducted as per latest FIDE rules and tie-breaks.
He also added that free accommodation will be organized to Grand Masters (GMs), International Masters (IMs), Women GMs, Women IMs, Asian or National title holders in various age groups. Players rated above 2,350 ELO ratings too will be entitled to get free accommodation.
Participants have to register themselves at the earliest as entry will be provided on 'First Come First Serve' basis to 300 players only. Entry fee is waived for GMs, IMs, Women GMs, Women IMs and current National/Asian/World Title holders in different age groups and also for players rated above 2350, said he.
