Mangalore, Apr 24: A part of a long-cherished dream was realized on Monday April 23 as four lane road between Chitrapur Junction and Honnakatte was thrown open for public use.
Though the stretch of almost 1.5 kilometres was supposed to have been handed over for vehicular movement somedays ago, owing to some reasons it became possible only on Monday. The NHI and IRKON officials who came to the spot in the evening on Monday gave green signal to use the four lane road.
Though the present road is slightly higher than the existing highway, facilities have been made for the better and smooth change-over at almost every stop. However, owing to lack of communication and information only a few vehicles were seen plying on the road. It is expected that vehicular movement may increase from Tuesday.
However, there are still some problems which need to be addressed at the earliest. Since the present road is slightly higher, there are chances that those vehicles which go to the extreme end may overturn and fall on the old road. So too on the other side, certain road works, drainage works are still going on making it difficult to the vehicles to move freely. Since the road is quite narrow in breadth, there are likely chances that if any vehicle like bus or lorry stops, then, traffic might be blocked for long.
Whatever it may, for the time being it is a time to rejoice for all that at least the road has been opened for public use.
