Mangalore, Apr 24: A protest was staged by the members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike at the Central Railway Station here on Monday April 23 against the recruitment of people from other states in the railways of the coastal districts.

The protesters marched in a procession from Kadri Park to the railway station shouting slogans against the use of Malayalam along with English and Hindi instead of Kannada in railway ticket reservation forms. They decried the negligence of Kannada language by the railway authorities.

They also alleged that even the staff members of the railway station do not know to speak Kannada.

They also demanded the immediate commencement of Byndoor-Bangalore train service via the city and placed other demands like employment opportunities, and merger of Kasargod with Karnataka.

The protestors brought down name boards on various stalls that were written in Malayalam and also submitted a memorandum to the station master.

Among those present were Vedike state secretary Praveen Kumar Shetty, Bangalore city unit president T N Shivanand, local unit president Shashidar, Udupi district unit president Santosh, Hebri unit president Shivprasad and others.
