Mangalore, Apr 25: Prof Siddalingaiah, president of Kannada Development Authority paid a visit to the railway station here and expressed his dissatisfaction for neglecting Kannada in the railway station on Wednesday April 25.
It is found that some boards at the railway station are written in English and Malayalam only and at some places, Kannada was wrongly written. He was also unhappy that ticket and registration forms are not printed in Kannada.
Moreover it has been pointed out that a rail which runs between Mangalore and Chennai has boards written in English and Malayalam only. He took Mangalore Railway Station Master P K Dasan to task about these irregularities. "“If you do not write in Kannada too, people will not allow these trains to enter into Karnataka limits. You may even have to face tough times” he warned.
Later he had a detailed discussion with the station master. Speaking with media persons after this discussion, Siddalingaiah said that, the railway officers have agreed to follow the instructions given by Kannada Development Authority. Appointment of Kannada speaking people in the railway station, answering in Kannada when customers call the station, are some of the instructions which have to implemented at the earliest, he added.
He also said that, Kannada study centre would be opened in Mangalore for the employees of railway station by Kannada Development Authority. Railway officers have agreed to attend the Kannada classes here.
If the railway officers do not keep up the word, probe will be conducted later he assured. At the same he expressed displeasure for the Malayalam domination and said that this trend cannot be tolerated for long.
District Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, Pradeepkumar Kalkura, member of Kannada Development Authority, Lokeshkumar, and additional SP were present on the occasion.
Later Siddalingaiah paid a visit to MESCOM and complimented the officers there for implementing Kannada in day-to-day official works.
