Data-management app Opera Max launched

New Delhi, June 16 (IANS): Opera Software on Tuesday launched Max, a free data-management and data-saving app, in India and Bangladesh which will reduce data usage for mobile users.

According to Opera, Max shrinks videos and photos across most apps on mobile data connections, Wi-Fi to reduce data usage for mobile users.

The launch assumes significance as India is a price-sensitive market and 3G data rates are still high.

The app also touts that it would be more effective in giving users a smoother experience while the users experience network congestion or are on a crowded, public Wi-Fi hotspot.

Interestingly, the app comes with a feature that looks to plug data leakages by blocking unwanted apps.

This feature will also prevent the app from tracking user information in the background.

The compression for the app also works across videos and games.

According to the company, the new app can condense a 10 MB video down to 3 MB and significantly reduce instances of video buffering without any noticeable loss of quality.

The app can be downloaded from the Play Store.
