Sensex up 128 points; FMCG stocks gain


Mumbai, Jun 17 (IANS): A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), was trading 127.80 points or 0.48 percent up during the afternoon session on Wednesday.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 31.15 points or 0.39 percent up at 8,078.45 points.

The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,815.41 points, was trading at 26,814.31 points (at 1.04 p.m.) in the afternoon session, up 127.80 points or 0.48 percent from the previous day's close at 26,686.51 points.

The Sensex has touched a high of 26,857.37 points and a low of 26,728.89 points in the intra-day trade so far.

During the intra-day trade so far, good buying was observed in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), healthcare, consumer durables and metal sectors.

The S&P BSE FMCG index surged by 1.53 percent, healthcare index got augmented by 1.27 percent, consumer durables index moved up by 1.20 percent and metal index inched up by 1.08 percent.
