Akali Dal leader shot dead by police near Amritsar, party demands probe

Jun 17 (NDTV):  A leader from the ruling Akali Dal, Mukhjit Singh alias Mokha was shot dead by the police on the outskirts of Amritsar in Punjab last night.

Police claim that they had received information about a notorious gangster who was seen in the area in a car without a number plate. When cops asked the vehicle to stop at a checkpost around 8 pm, Mr Singh who was inside the car allegedly fired at a constable, leading the police to retaliate. The Akali leader was allegedly killed in the exchange of fire.

The Akali Dal has called it a case of murder and has demanded action against the police personnel involved.

"Police didn't attack anyone... one of our men was also shot... when he took out his pistol and fired, the police had no option but to retaliate," said Parampal Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amritsar.

A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the incident.

Mr Singh, who was the corporator from Verka, had no criminal record.

Seeing the comments, it seems like Bhaksala and Donald are one and the same commenting in two different names.
Or is it a deal between Donald and Bhaksala stating- " Yaan yiren ini pugaruve, yelle yeer anchane yannen la pugarodu." :P
