Bantwal Apr 27: The fear of facing a major water shortage crisis in the city was abated with MRPL fixing the leaks in Thumbe dam that resulted in increase in the water level in the dam.

A press release stated that MRPL, which volunteered to set right the problem, fixed 42 leaks out of which two were major ones. The shortage in the supply of water was resulting from the leaks and pumping of water from unauthorised weirs.

The release further stated that MRPL utilised the locally available experts for the work related to underwater repairs and videography which was done on April 10. The entire repair work was undertaken at the cost of Rs 9 lac.

The Thumbe dam is now overflowing and the citizens need not worry about water shortage in the coming days, thanks to MRPL, the district officials as well as pre-monsoon showers, the release stated.
