Two dead as vehicle falls into Jammu and Kashmir gorge

Jammu, June 18 (IANS): Two people were killed when their load carrier fell into a 400-feet-deep gorge on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Thursday, police said.

The load carrier - on its way from Srinagar to Jammu - went of the driver's control in Sikhandru on the highway and fell into the gorge, a police official told IANS.

Both occupants of the vehicle died in the accident, the official said.

Police later recovered the bodies.

"We have recovered both the bodies from the ill-fated load carrier. The bodies were identified as those of driver Dalver Singh, son of Manjeet Singh and a resident of Digiana (in Jammu), and of the load carrier's owner, Manoj Kumar, son of Bishan Das and a resident of Gangyal (also in Jammu)," the police official said.

The bodies will be handed over to the families for the last rites.
