Former champion Hewitt gets Wimbledon wild card

London, June 18 (IANS): Veteran Australian tennis star Lleyton Hewitt has been assured of a Wimbledon farewell after he earned a wild card entry into the tournament on Thursday.

The 2002 champion was granted one of the eight discretionary invitations into the main draw.

The confirmation means the World No.117 would not have to sign on for qualifying at Roehampton next week with his ranking outside that of direct entry reports the heraldsun.com.au.

Hewitt is a former No.1 and has won the 2001 US Open and 2002 Wimbledon men's singles titles.

The 34-year-old will feature in his 18th and final All England Club tourney alongside Bernard Tomic, Nick Kyrgios, Sam Groth, Thanasi Kokkinakis, James Duckworth and Marinko Matosevic.
