Dubai,Apr 28: Shilpi Mangalore wins the Bhatkal cup 2007 Kabaddi Tournament here at Irani club defeating Karnataka Sangha Sharjah by 46 points on Friday. The tournament which was organized by Bhatkal Muslim Jamaat, Dubai on Thursday night concluded on Friday night at 9.00 pm. The tournament was a great success and the kabaddi lovers were treated to good games and were fully entertained.

A total of twelve teams comprising people hailing from Karnataka state and working in Dubai participated in the event. Organizer had fielded three teams out of which Bhatkal Silver lost both the matches it played. It lost to Karnataka Sangha Sharjah in its first outing, followed by defeat at the hands of Abudhabi Mangalorean which knocked the team out of reckoning.

The other 2 teams Bhatkal Gold and Bhatkal Blue entered semi finals, with Karnataka Sangha Sharjah and Shilpi Mangalore being the other teams making to the semi final stage.

 

Bhatkal Gold led by Zia Musbah defeated Gangavali Seven Star and Millennium metal in the league matches to qualify in the semi final. Bhatkal Blue led by Ziaullah Shabandari defeated Nafees and played well against Kundapur Islamic knowledge board.

On the other hand Karnataka Sangha Sharjah defeated Bhatkal Silver and Abudhabi Mangalorean; Shilpi Mangalore defeated Amtek Ajman and Kundapur Association to enter in the Semi Final.


The semi finals were played on Friday after Asar Namaz in which Shilpi Mangalore comprehensively defeated Bhatkal Blue with a huge margin of 25 points. Bhatkal Blue went into the semifinal without one of its star players Noorus Sadiqeen Shingeri who had to sit out following an injury he sustained in a league match.

Final Match was played between Shilpi Mangalore and Karnataka Sangha Sharjah in which Shilpi Mangalore defeated Karnataka Sangha Sharjah by a very huge margin of 46 points and won the trophy and cash prize of AED-1500/

The best all rounder award was given to Gopinath of Shilpi Mangalore while Hassan Bapa got best Catcher award. Abdur Razzak of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah was given Best Rider award.

K M Masood, Ex Chairman of Karnataka Minority commission and Ex MLC presented the Trophy and cash prize to the winner, while Mr. S M Syed Khaleel, President, Bhatkal Muslim Jamaat, Dubai and Chariman Sahilonline presented the trophy and cash prize of AED-1000/ to the runners up.

Abdus Salam Damudi, the General Secretary of Bhatkal Muslim Jamaat Dubai, Shariyar Khateeb, Convener of the tournament and other executives of Jamaat were present on the occasion.
